Teaching Principles

I came across the blog of David Goldberg https://dgoldblog.wordpress.com/2010/09/05/my-vision-of-being-a-teacher/ whereby he describes his vision of being a teacher. There were five principles which I felt were critical in the art of teaching. David Goldberg (2010) states:

1.      I will hold my students to a standard above and beyond who they know themselves to be and give them the support they need to find themselves in a larger skilled identity.

2.      I will be a professional teacher.

3.      I can be very funny, but almost never on purpose.

4.      My class will loose and personable, but within rigid expectations of performance and respect.

5.      I will hold my student to a standard of being conscientious adults while taking in to account the reality that they are not adults.

Education is the key

I came across an article which was published a year ago on News24 and I can truly say that I felt the passion in the words of the writer concerning the topic of education as a key to improve not only the lives of South Africans but our country as a whole – http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/South-Africans-education-is-key-20150529 [South Africans, education is key]. The article starts off introducing a Professor of Economics at Harvard University: Roland Fryer. What makes this interesting is that Roland Fryer is only 30 years of age.

What is means to be a teacher?

Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions that will ever be in existence. Being a teacher is more than just a profession. It is one of the only professions which allow you as the teacher to not only make a difference but also to create other professions. It all starts at the institution of learning: the classroom in any school. My vision as a teacher will not merely consist of being an ordinary teacher but to be an extraordinary teacher that will truly make an impact.
